USHA Silai School Collection Launched At The Lakme Fashion Week

Some of the Usha Silai School women, chosen from four regions of the country, went through an assessment. Then a select few got to work on the production of a clothing line, under their fashion designer mentors. These women were then flown to Mumbai to display their collection at the trendiest event on the year - the Lakme Fashion Week.

These women went through a stringent shortlisting process to make it to the team that produced the clothing line, to be showcased at the trendiest event on the year- the Lakme Fashion Week.

Mathilda Mary and Irudaya Mary from Puducherry worked with designer Sreejith Jevan to create a fashion line that signified the ethos of the coastal town.

Raizaben and Rekhaben from Gujarat had a much different story from the rest of the group. Being physically challenged, this was a major achievement for them to be part of a group that produced a financially sustainable line which will be sold at the biggest fashion retail chains across the country.

The women worked with designer Soham Dave and created a fashion line that was inspired by the black sewing machine which works manually and is the most financially viable sewing equipment available in most homes across India.
