A 50th of a second long slice of life of three little girls in Mandu, India. The first and the eldest-already world-weary, the last-too innocent to be aware, the girl in the middle, cheerful despite the odds. To me the picture typifies the lot of the girl child who, if she escaped female foeticide, is regarded as a continual liability and faces deprivation at every step of her life.
