Juneteenth is observed annually on June 19 to mark the end of slavery in the U.S. The holiday, recognized in 2021, is also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day. It commemorates the announcement of emancipation to enslaved African Americans in Texas in 1865.
