Former vice chancellor of Delhi University, Deepak Pental, arrested today on the basis of a complaint that he had plagiarised a paper on biotechnology and passed it off as his own. While that may be the case, this is not the first time that charges of plagiarism have been made at the highest levels against professors in the university, or indeed elsewhere too. What mechanisms exist to catch these instances quicker, or to enforce ethics and rights to intellectual property in academia in order to replenish diminishing confidence in our higher education system?
