People have taken out protest rallies in different parts of the country after the government hiked the price of diesel and restricted access to subsidised cooking gas to only six per year.

A day after the government increased the price of diesel and put a cap on subsidised LPG usage, there were widespread protests across the country today. People held rallies against the decision to restrict access to subsidised cooking gas to only 6 per year.

A symbolic rally was taken out in Khamla area in Nagpur. Women were seen burning logs of wood in makeshift chullahs and cooked food on street.

State-run oil marketing companies are losing Rs. 550 crore everyday on under-recoveries as a result of higher crude prices in the global markets. They make a loss of Rs. 17 per litre on diesel sales, Rs. 32.7 per litre on kerosene sales, and Rs. 347 per cylinder on cooking gas sales every day.
