1st Test, Day 1: India vs Australia in Chennai

R Ashwin was the destructor-in-chief as India pegged Australia back with a flurry of wickets. The Tamil Nadu offie was India's sole wicket-taker grabbing all five to fall in the day even as skipper Michael Clarke and debutant Moises Henriques stood up for the visitors.

  • Australian captain Michael Clarke won the toss and selected to bat first against India in the first Test being played at the Chepauk, Chennai. Clarke looked extremely happy after the toss while Dhoni too expressed desire to bat first. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Ed Cowan and David Warner started off on a bright note as Australia looked to stamp authority early. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar was steady at best, Ishant Sharma struggled a bit up front as Aussie openers raced along. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Ashwin was second time unlucky when skipper Dhoni missed Cowan's stumping, albeit a difficult one. The Tamil Nadu offie though was third time lucky as Cowan (29 off 45 balls) danced down only to get stumped. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Looking increasingly impressive now, Ashwin got India the second breakthrough of the day with Phil Hughes (6 off 15 balls) playing one on. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Harbhajan Singh, playing in his 100th Test, was given a memento by BCCI chief N Srinivasan. He could not do much with the ball though and went for close to 4 runs an over throughout the day. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Bhuvneshwar, making his India debut, was just about decent without majorly troubling any batsman. He bowled a good line and length but lack of pace was his Achilles heel. (Photo credit: BCCI)
  • Skipper Michael Clarke continued his brilliant run of form, especially against India, with scores of 329*, 18, 210, 37, 73 and now a century in this innings. (Photo credit: BCCI)
