Mumbai Metro authorities, along with Mastercard and Axis Bank launched the ‘One Mumbai Metro Card' on Thursday, July 8, in a bid to ensure cashless, contactless travel in Mumbai. The smart card initiative is in line with the government's vision to build a public infrastructure that is future-ready, safe, and sustainable. The One Mumbai Metro Card is an open-loop, prepaid, contactless card which can be used as a part of the daily transit journey in the city, a step that assumes significance amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With the smart card and Mastercard's technical assistance, the solution will help the transit eco-system to go entirely digital. The card can be used for all daily purchases including groceries, food, medicines as well as tickets for daily commuting. Similar solutions offered by Mastercard provide transit agencies the ability to develop, design, and establish customized prepaid digital payment solutions. Such solutions help in delivering a cashless and contactless transit experience for the public.
