An SMS-based service provided by state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) enables users to receive information on latest fuel prices on their mobile. Petrol and diesel rates in the country are reviewed from time to time based on movement in global oil prices and the rupee-dollar currency exchange rate, and vary from state to state due to factors such as value added tax (VAT). The user is required to send an SMS to 9224992249 in the following format, according to the state-run refiner's website - iocl.com:
