What Happens When A Nuclear Bomb Explodes?

Nuclear bombs are weapons of mass destruction, that use power released by the splitting of atomic nuclei

There are different types and sizes of nuclear weapons, but modern bombs start by triggering a fission reaction

The resulting fission explosion creates a large fireball with temperatures that match the heat of the center of the sun

When everything inside of the fireball vaporizes, including soil and water, it is carried upwards, creating a mushroom cloud

Radioactive material from the nuclear device mixes with the vaporized material in the mushroom cloud

After it cools down, the condensed radioactive material falls back to the earth, known as fallout

Itr can be carried long distances on wind currents and end up miles from the site of the explosion

Fallout is radioactive and can cause contamination of anything on which it lands, including food and water supplies

A nuclear blast would likely cause great destruction, death and cause severe damage to our environment on a scale incomparable to any other weapon

Nuclear bombs have only ever been used twice. Both of these bombs were detonated during World War II, by the United States against Japan
