Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes After 6 Years

The revered Kailash Manasarovar Yatra via Nathula Pass in Sikkim resumed on June 20 after a six-year hiatus.

The yatra was suspended due to the Covid pandemic and border tensions.

The first batch of 36 pilgrims crossed over to the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) of China through Nathula border in Sikkim on June 20.

The pilgrimage was flagged off by Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Nathula.

The pilgrims will spend 11 days in the Tibetan Autonomous Region to reach Mt Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.

The Yatra is a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in Tibet, considered sacred in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon.

The yatra typically lasts for 24-26 days via the Lipulekh Pass and 21 days via the Nathu La Pass.

Indian citizens with valid passports, aged between 18 and 70, and medically fit, are eligible to apply.
