A single drop waterfall is a waterfall where the water flows over multiple tiers, with one big drop from the top to the bottom

At 226 metres, it is 4 times higher than the famous Niagara Falls and 2 times higher than the Victoria Falls

It is also one of the most powerful rapids in the world, with an average of 23,400 cubic feet of water rushing over the edge every second

The giant waterfall is located on the Potaro River in Kaieteur National Park, within Guyana's region of the Amazon rainforest

According to legend, the waterfall was named after "Kai," an honourable Patamona Amerindian chief

The remote location of Kaieteur Falls is perhaps the main reason why it is less well known than some of the world's other major waterfalls
