Heatwave Alert: Do's And Don'ts To Stay Safe

Large parts of north India are reeling from severe heatwave conditions with temperatures touching 47.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi

A heatwave occurs when air temperature becomes dangerously high and poses a threat to human health

Here are some of the Do's and Don'ts to follow to minimise the impact during the heatwave

Drink sufficient water as often as possible, even if not thirsty. Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, lemon water, buttermilk, to rehydrate yourself

Wear light-coloured, loose cotton clothes. Use protective goggles, an umbrella/hat, shoes or chappals while going out

Keep your home cool, use curtains, shutters or sunshades and open windows at night

Use fans, damp clothing and take bath in cold water frequently

Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages as they can dehydrate you. Opt for high-protein food, light meals and don't eat stale food

Avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12- 3 pm. Try not to do strenuous activities

Make sure to not leave your pets and kids alone in parked vehicles. If you feel faint or ill, see a doctor immediately
