Rabbits and hares belong to the same family, Leporidae, but they are different. Most obvious difference between them is their size.

Hares are generally larger with longer legs and ears, built for speed; rabbits are smaller with shorter legs.

Hares are born fully furred, eyes open, and can move quickly, while rabbits are born blind, hairless, and helpless.

Hares live above ground in simple nests, while rabbits live in complex underground burrow systems.

Hares are solitary or live in pairs, while rabbits are social and live in groups.

Hare fur can change seasonally (e.g., to white in winter) for camouflage; rabbit fur stays mostly the same colour.

Hares eat tougher vegetation like bark; rabbits prefer softer grasses and leaves.
