The giant bee was rediscovered in Indonesia in 2019 after nearly 40 years since its last sighting.

The bee has been nicknamed Megachile pluto and was rediscovered by British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace.

It is also known for its large and powerful jaws called mandibles.

The bee makes its nest in termite mounds, using its large fang-like mandibles to collect sticky resin.

The giant bee lives in the Indonesian island region of North Moluccas.

The IUCN Red List classifies it as "vulnerable" due to its limited and remote habitat.
