Autoimmune arthritis (most commonly rheumatoid arthritis) often starts subtly, and early symptoms can come and go before becoming more persistent

Common early signs to watch for: Joint pain + stiffness: Especially in small joints like fingers, wrists, toes. Morning stiffness lasting 30+ min is a red flag

Swelling + warmth: Joints may look puffy or feel warm to touch, even if pain is mild

Fatigue: Unexplained tiredness that doesn't improve with rest. Autoimmune inflammation drains energy

Low-grade fever + malaise: Feeling ''off'' or flu-like without an actual infection

Symmetrical symptoms: Both hands, both knees, both wrists hurting at the same time

Reduced range of motion: Trouble making a fist, climbing stairs, or gripping things

Early treatment makes a huge difference with autoimmune arthritis. If you're noticing several of these symptoms for more than 2-3 weeks, talk to a rheumatologist or your doctor
