Your eyes work overtime; screens, sun, dust, and late nights all take a toll. Here are some daily habits that can protect your vision for years

1. 20-20-20 rule: Staring at screens reduces blinking and strains eye muscles. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It relaxes the focusing muscles

2. Eat for your eyes: Nutrients like omega-3s, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc lower the risk of age-related vision problems

3. Wear sunglasses: UV exposure increases the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Pick sunglasses that block 99-100% of both UVA and UVB rays

4. Stay hydrated: Dry, air-conditioned rooms + screens = dry eyes. Blink when reading or using devices; we blink 3x less when staring at screens. Keep a water bottle nearby
5. Give your eyes a clean environment: Remove eye makeup before bed to prevent clogged oil glands and styes. Wash hands before touching your eyes or contacts

6. Adjust setup: Position screens at arm's length, with the top of the monitor at or just below eye level. Reduce glare with matte screen filters or by positioning lights

7. Get eye exams: Many eye diseases like glaucoma have no early symptoms. Adults should get a comprehensive eye exam every 1-2 years, or yearly if you wear glasses or contacts
