JEE Main Result: How Percentile Is Calculated

JEE Main result is prepared using percentile scores, not percentage or raw marks

The percentile indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below a particular candidate in a session

Since JEE Main is conducted in multiple sessions, normalization is used to maintain fairness across different question papers

Percentile is calculated session-wise by comparing a candidate's performance only with others who appeared in the same shift

The formula used is: (Number of candidates who scored equal to or less than the candidate ÷ Total number of candidates in that session) × 100

The highest scorer in each session is awarded a percentile score of 100, irrespective of raw marks

Raw marks obtained out of 300 are converted into percentile scores through the normalization process

Separate percentile scores are calculated for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics along with an overall percentile

The overall percentile is not the average of subject-wise percentiles, it is calculated independently based on total marks

If a candidate appears in more than one session, the best percentile score is considered for the final result

The final percentile score is used to prepare the All India Rank, which determines eligibility for JEE Advanced and admission to colleges
