Google recently hired Indian-based Winsurf founder to further strengthen its AI team

OpenAI, developer of Chatgpt and one of the leading AI firm was in talk to Acquire Windsurf in June 2025.

But Google acted first and hired the Windsurf's core team -Varun Mohan and Douglas Chen, blocking OpenAI's bid

Varun Mohan attended the Harker School in San Jose before moving on to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned both a B.Eng (Comp. Sci.) and M.Eng (Comp Sci.)
