Telcos to meet Kapil Sibal over 2G pricing, licensing norms
The meeting will cover topics like new licensing norms and the new telecom policy. Operators are also likely to take up issue of one-time fee and 3G roaming as well. Spectrum pricing is also expected to figure prominently in the meeting.
Sunil bharti Mittal, Anil Ambani will meet telecom minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday along with other heads of telecom companies. This meeting is a follow up on issues raised with the Prime Minister in November 2011.
Himanshu Kapania, head of Idea cellular and Vodafone India Chief Executive Officer Martin Pieters will also be present at the meeting tomorrow.
The meeting will cover topics like new licensing norms and the new telecom policy. Operators are also likely to take up issue of one-time fee and 3G roaming as well.
3G roaming has been in news on account of the dispute between telecom operators and the department of Telecom. DoT had asked operators to cancel roaming agreements between the telcos. The dispute is now being reviewed in the telecom tribunal TDSAT.
Spectrum pricing is also expected to figure prominently in the meeting. Operators had earlier recommended auctioning 2G spectrum. This has been followed by the telecom commission recently recommending auction for discovering 2G spectrum prices.
