Sensex, Nifty Open Higher on Positive Global Cues
The BSE benchmark Sensex opened higher in trades on Monday on the back of positive global cues.
 
The 50-share Nifty was trading firm above 8,800 levels led by gains in heavyweights like State Bank of India, HDFC Bank and TCS.

Meanwhile, the Asian markets were trading on a firm note. Japan's Nikkei was trading above 18,000 levels near eight-year high following Wall Street's record close on Friday. Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite were also trading higher.
 
Back home, mid-cap and small-cap stocks were trading in line with the heavyweights. Respective indices gained 0.5 per cent each.
 
Buying was visible across the board with oil & gas, banking and auto stocks leading the gains.
 
From the Nifty basket, Bharat Petroleum was the top gainer. The stock was trading higher by 4 per cent at Rs 753 after the company reported that its third quarter net profit came in at Rs 551 crore against loss of Rs 1089 crore on year on year basis.
 
Tata Motors, State Bank of India, Sesa Sterlite, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Cipla and HUL were also trading higher by 1-2 per cent each.
 
On the other hand, Sun Pharma, Jindal Steel, Asian Paints, Infosys, BHEL and Tata Power were among the losers.
 
At 9:40 AM, the Sensex was up 179 points or 0.6 per cent at 29,274 and the 50-share Nifty advanced 49 points or 0.6 per cent to 8,855.
