Sensex, Nifty Likely to Open Flat Tracking Subdued Asian Cues

The Sensex and Nifty are likely to open on a flat note tracking subdued trading in other Asian markets.

Most of the Asian markets were trading on a flat note. The Hang Seng was up 0.05 per cent, Shanghai Composite was down 0.09 per cent and Japan's Nikkei was also trading with marginal losses.

Meanwhile, China's annual economic growth likely slowed to a six-year low of 7 per cent in the first quarter as demand at home and abroad faltered, fanning expectations of more policy stimulus to avert a sharper slowdown.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was all but flat, while Japan's Nikkei inched down 0.2 per cent.

Overnight, the Wall Street had ended mostly higher on Tuesday, helped by energy stocks and quarterly earnings reports that topped modest expectations following worries about a strong dollar.

The Dow rose 0.33 per cent and the S&P 500 0.16 per cent, while the Nasdaq fell 0.22 per cent.

The SGX Nifty was also trading on a flat note, up 14 points at 8,842.
