The rupee was trading at 60.12/13 in afternoon trade on Friday versus its Thursday's close of 60.19/20 as dollar sales by a corporate aided the Indian unit.
Losses in the domestic share market, however, prevented the currency from gaining further.
As of 2:58 p.m., the Nifty was down 1 per cent.
The rupee is seen moving in a range of 60.00 to 60.30 during the rest of the session.
