Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan Sizzles at Box Office

Rajinikanth-starrer Kochadaiiyaan grossed Rs 42 crore at the box office in its opening weekend, according to a statement from Eros International Media to Bombay Stock Exchange.

Eros International released the film in 2D and 3D on May 23rd 2014, in six languages in over 3,000 screens worldwide. Tamil Nadu distribution was undertaken directly by Eros International.

Giving the break-up of Kochadaiiyaan's box office breakup, Eros said the futuristic movie collected grossed Rs 30 crore in India and Rs 12 crore overseas.

Eros expects the movie's collections to touch the Rs 100 crore mark soon. "Markets with Rajni stronghold like UAE, Malaysia and Singapore have shown superlative performance. With pre-sales from satellite rights in multiple languages, audio and music rights exploitation, brand tie-ups and other income, the film is well on its way to cross Rs 100 in revenue just after the opening weekend," it said.

Nandu Ahuja, Senior V P, India Theatrical, Eros International Media Ltd said, "As the film continues to attract huge numbers with its high octane action, photo realistic animation and of course Rajinikanth's larger than life persona, we expect the film to continue wowing audiences."

Directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, Kochadaiiyaan is an epic dramatisation of good versus evil starring Rajinikanth in a double role. Deepika Padukone, Sharath Kumar, Nazar, Aadi, Shobana and Rukmini also featured in leading roles.

The shares of Eros International Media was down 4.7 per cent on the BSE as compared to 1.5 per cent gain in broader markets.
