Railways freight traffic registers more than 4 per cent growth

Railways has reported an over 4 per cent growth in frieght traffic for the April-December period in 2012. 

It has carried 735.10 million tonnes (MT) of freight traffic during April-December period in 2012, an increase of 4.45 per cent from last year.

The freight carried shows an increase of 31.33 MT over the freight of 703.77 MT carried during the corresponding period last year, according to Railway Ministry data.

During December 2012, the freight traffic carried by Railways was 88.19 MT. There is an increase of 1.42 MT over the actual freight traffic of 86.77 MT carried by the Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.64 per cent.
