ONGC reclaims second most valued firm status; ITC slips to third position

State-run energy major ONGC on Wednesday reclaimed the status of the country's second most valued firm in terms of market valuation, pushing ITC to the third slot.

FMCG major ITC had on Tuesday surpassed ONGC to become the county's second most valued firm, but its rein at the coveted spot proved to be short-lived.

At the end of Wednesday's trade, ONGC commanded a market valuation of Rs 2,64,749 crore, while the value of ITC stood at Rs 2,62,340 crore.

Shares in ITC ended the day nearly 1 per cent lower, while ONGC closed 0.31 per cent up on the BSE.

IT major TCS is the most valued Indian firm with its Rs 2,87,290 crore market capitalisation.

RIL is the fourth most valued company with Rs 2,56,094 crore market value, followed by Coal India Ltd at Rs 1,91,575 crore.

Market capitalisation or the value of a listed company is arrived at by multiplying the total number of its shares with its stock price on a particular day or time.

The figure changes every day with the change in the stock price.
