Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday reported domestic sales of 115,325 units in August 2020. This marks a growth of 21.7 per cent compared to the corresponding month last year. The country's largest carmaker by market share posted total sales of 124,624 units in August 2020, which is a growth of 15.3 per cent over July 2020 and 17.1 per cent over August 2019.

Total sales include domestic sales of 115,325 units and 1,379 units for other OEMs.

The company exported 7,920 units in August 2020, a drop of 15.3 per cent over August 2019.

In the mini segment, which comprises its Alto and S-Presso models, Maruti Suzuki sold 19,709 vehicles in August 2020, up 94.7 per cent compared to 10,123 units in the year-ago period.

In the compact segment, including Wagon R, Swift and Dzire models, sales rose 14.2 per cent to 61,956 vehicles.

The sales of its mid-size Ciaz model declined 23.4 per cent to 1,223 units.

The sales of utility vehicles rose 13.5 per cent to 21,030 vehicles, data from Maruti Suzuki showed.

Maruti Suzuki said that it remains committed to the health, safety and well-being of all members across the value chain. "All production and sales continue to take place fully consistent with all safety requirements for employees and customers. This is subject to compliance with all COVID 19-related constraints," the company said.

At 10:35 am, the shares of Maruti Suzuki were trading at Rs 6,953, higher by 1.6 per cent on the BSE, compared to a 0.4 per cent rise in the benchmark indices.
