Infrastructure conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced that its construction business secured a significant order from metro operator Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the design and construction of the underground metro project Phase-1 of the Patna Mass Rapid Transit System.

The order has been awarded to heavy civil infrastructure business of L&T Construction, according to a regulatory filing by L&T to the stock exchanges. L&T classifies a contract worth Rs 1,000-Rs 2,500 crore as a significant order.

The project is being funded by the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) and, upon completion, will be operated by the Patna Mass Rapid Transit System.

"The major scope of work for the project comprises design and construction of twin tunnel...ramp at Rajendra Nagar and six underground metro stations viz, Rajendra Nagar, Moin Ul Haq Stadium, University PMCH, Gandhi Maidan and Akashvani along with other associated structures including architectural finishing, water supply, sanitary installation and drainage works on the new ISBT to Patna Station of Corridor-2 of Phase-1 of Patna MRTS,'' said L&T in its statement. The project alignment passes through the heart of Patna city and is scheduled to be completed within 42 months.

On Wednesday, January 5, shares of Larsen & Toubro were trading 0.44 per cent higher at Rs 1,946.50 apiece on the BSE. L&T opened on the BSE at Rs 1,936.30. registering an intra day high of Rs 1,949.45 and an intra day low of Rs 1,927.30, in the trading session so far.
