India's infrastructure industries' output expanded 3.7 per cent in January, compared to the same period a year ago, government data showed on Monday.

The output in core sector industries had grown by 4.1 per cent in December 2021 from a year ago.

The production in eight core infrastructure industries - - which account for nearly 40 per cent of overall industrial output - rose by 11.6 per cent from a year ago over the April-January period, compared to a negative growth of 8.6 per cent during the same period last fiscal, the data showed.

The factory production of coal, natural gas, refinery products, steel, cement and electricity increased in January 2022, while crude oil and fertiliser output recorded negative growth in January. 

According to the data, coal production rose by 8.2 per cent, natural gas by 11.7 per cent, refinery products by 3.7 per cent, and cement by 13.6 in January.
