GoAir Joins Fare War With Rs 1,499 Offer

After SpiceJet, now domestic budget-carrier GoAir has introduced a Valentine's Day discount scheme for select destinations. This scheme offers one-way fares as low as Rs 1,499 and is valid for travel till April 15.

Earlier in the week, SpiceJet had rolled out 'Special Valentine' Rs 1,599 offer, which is applicable on travel between February 14 and April 15, 2015.

While Budget carrier IndiGo on Thursday had announced all-inclusive fares starting Rs 1,499, Jet Airways announced a low-fare offer with tickets starting from Rs 1,599.

AirAsia India has also announced discounted fares on advance travel. AirAsia India's discounted offer promises tickets from Rs 699 (all-inclusive) on advance bookings; the offer is applicable on travel between August 3, 2015 and March 26, 2016 and will close on February 8.

This year so far has seen numerous discount offers on fares by airlines. January-March and July-September quarters of the fiscal are traditionally lean season for the airlines in India. So airlines roll out such discount fare schemes to woo customers and fill the seats.

The trend for massive discounts on airfares was started by SpiceJet last year and it seems that the new management led by co-founder Ajay Singh is comfortable with the airline's aggressive strategy. SpiceJet's 'Super Sale' offer for 5 lakh seats, announced on January 28, resulted in a whopping 400 per cent jump in bookings, the airline has claimed.
