Dhoom 3 set for more box-office records

Dhoom 3 continued its strong run at the box office, shattering many domestic and overseas records. And Dhoom 3 looks set for more records, benefitting from the year-end holidays.

The third instalment of Dhoom franchise has in its 10 days of release has pulled in an estimated Rs 228 crore from the domestic box office.

"Dhoom3 [Wknd 2]: Hindi Rs 37.69 cr, Tamil & Telugu Rs 1.16 cr. Total: Hindi Rs 216.66 cr, Tamil & Telugu Rs 11.17 cr. Grand total: Rs 227.83 cr," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said in a tweet.

The third instalment of Dhoom franchise has emerged as the highest grosser in the USA-Canada circuit, according to estimates.

"Dhoom3 [$7 million; Rs 43.35 crore] has emerged the Highest Grosser in USA-Canada by overtaking 3Idiots [$ 6.5 million]," Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Pramod Arora, president & CEO of PVR, says Dhoom 3 is likely to set a new Rs 300 crore club at the box office. And its box-office success has come as a big boost for multiplex operators at a time when the economy is struggling at a decade-low level of growth. "Dhoom 3 is going to turn the fortunes around for most of the multiplex operators across the country, including us," he added.

The Aamir Khan-starrer action thriller is estimated to have been made on a budget of about Rs 100 crore and was released across nearly 4,000 screens. Dhoom 3 has been directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Yash Raj Films. (With Agency inputs)
