Maharatna company Coal India Limited (CIL) has said that it is trying to touch the 670 million tonnes production target in the current fiscal.

Almost all subsidiaries of CIL are ahead in their respective coal production numbers compared to the corresponding period last year, the company said in a statement.

CIL chairman Pramod Agrawal referred to the "sustained efforts and inspired performance" of the company's subsidiaries and has written to them "to end 2021-22 on a sound note scaling even more highs".

The fiscal 2021-22 has turned out to be a high-performance year for Coal India with a flurry of previous records bettered. The state-owned coal miner chalked out yet another high in total coal supplies at 608.15 million tonnes as of March 4, the statement added further.

CIL moved past the previous highest coal production of 608.14 million tonnes achieved in 2018-19, nearly a month before the current fiscal draws to a close.

The company had also crossed the 575 million tonnes total coal dispatch of 2020-21 on February 16 itself. Production ending 2019-20 was around 580 million tonnes.

"CIL's current offtake is averaging a little over 2 million tonnes per day and is expected to go up higher as the month progresses. We are hopeful of reaching 670 million tonnes if the demand holds," the company said.
