Sensex, Nifty Rise 2% In Four-Day Winning Run: Highlights

Domestic stock markets moved higher amid volatile trade on Wednesday, with the benchmark indices taking their winning-run to a fourth session in a row. The S&P BSE Sensex index climbed as much as 160.29 points to touch 38,666.38 at the day's strongest level in a session in which it changed direction at least eight times after a positive start. Selling in banking stocks pulled the markets into the negative territory, with the Sensex retreating as much as 249.71 points from the intraday high to hit 38,416.67 on the downside at the day's weakest level. The broader NSE Nifty benchmark moved in a range of 69.95 points, touching 11,481.05 and 11,411.10 points at the day's strongest and weakest levels respectively. Losses in banking, and consumer goods stocks countered gains in information technology and pharmaceutical shares. Analysts awaited more large cap companies to report their financial results this week.
