Alstom India bags Rs 840 crore contract from GVK Power Infrastructure

Alstom India said on Thursday that it has been awarded a 100 million euro contract by GVK Power and Infrastructure for supplying equipment for GVK's 850 MW Ratle hydropower plant in Jammu & Kashmir.

"Alstom has been awarded a contract worth over 100 million euro (Rs 840 crore) by GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd to equip the 850 MW Ratle hydropower plant, which will be commissioned in 2017," the company said in a statement.

The contract includes the supply of 4 turbines of 205 MW each, and one turbine of 30 MW. All equipment will be manufactured at Alstom's Vadodara facility in Gujarat, the company said.

"This contract is a testimony to the quality of the long standing relationship built over the last 15 years by Alstom and GVK. We are happy to be supporting the country's plan to further incorporate renewable energy into its energy mix," Patrick Ledermann, managing director and vice chairman of Alstom India, a unit of French power-sector firm Alstom.

The hydropower plant in Ratle is currently the largest power project being set up in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Shares in Alstom India, on Thursday, ended at Rs 338.40 apiece on the BSE, up 0.91 per cent from the previous close.
