Chennai: AirAsia India on Thursday announced the appointment of Globe Air Cargo India, part of the ECS Group, as its cargo general sales and services agent (GSSA).

"Air Asia India is immensely happy to associate with Globe Air Cargo India of the ECS Group known for its expertise in air cargo," AirAsia India chief executive Mittu Chandilya told reporters in Chennai.

AirAsia India, the domestic arm of Malaysian airline AirAsia, started operations in the country on June 12 and has services to Goa, Chennai and Kochi from Bangalore.

"Bookings will be open for Chandigarh and Jaipur from tomorrow and operations to these destinations (from Bangalore) are likely to begin in early September," he said.

Stating that AirAsia flights have a belly capacity of 3 to 3.5 tonnes to handle cargo, he said his company had growth plans to achieve significant revenue from cargo sales.

ECS Group managing director Rajendra Dubey said his company had innovative plans to fetch cargo for AirAsia.

"We have entered into Strategic Partnership Agreement with some airlines and through such initiatives we plan to get cargo even in a tourist destination like Goa."
