India's Coronavirus tally surged past the 47-lakh mark on Saturday with 94,372 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours, the government said on Sunday.

With this latest spike, the count of COVID-19 cases stands at 47,54,356 of which, there are a total of 9,73,175 active cases while 37,02,595 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated, the Union Health Ministry said.

The current death count due to coronavirus in the country rose to 78,586 after 1,172 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. India is the country with the second-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States.

The country's recovery rate now stands at 77.8 per cent, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed on Saturday.

Coronavirus: Only Packed Food In Parliament Canteen Dring Monsoon Session Amid Covid
Members of Parliament (MPs) will be given packed food in the canteen during the Monsoon session. This is among the several measures that are being taken in this session in the wake of the coronavirus.

In this context, a menu has been issued from the canteen of the Parliament. As per the menu, there will be different types of packed breakfast in the canteen for the MPs.

At the same time, they will be able to get 4 categories of packed lunch, which include vegetarian food, South Indian, non-vegetarian, and combo meal. In addition, hygiene will be taken care of in the canteen.

In the wake of coronavirus, hand sanitizer machines have been installed. Arrangements have been made to sanitise the canteen and its kitchen.

The Monsoon Session of the Parliament is scheduled to commence on Monday and is slated to conclude on October 1. There will be no question hour and private members' business during the monsoon session.

COVID-19: Odisha's tally crosses 1.5-lakh mark
The COVID-19 tally in Odisha rose to 1,50,807 after 3,913 more people, including 38 inmates of a jail and a BJD MLA, tested positive for the disease on Sunday, while 10 fresh fatalities took the death toll to 626, a health department official said.

The state also registered the recovery of 3,363 coronavirus patients taking the total number of cured people so far to 1,18,642 which is 78.67 per cent.

The state now has 31,486 active cases, the official said.

The new cases were reported from all the 30 districts of the state, he said.

Of the fresh cases, 2,348 were reported from various quarantine centres, and 1,565 were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

COVID-19: Assam reports 16 more deaths, 1,292 fresh cases
Assam reported 16 more COVID-19 fatalities on Sunday, taking the death total to 469, while the caseload climbed to 1,41,763 with 1,292 new infections, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Eight deaths were reported from Kamrup Metropolitan and Sivasagar, two each from Golaghat, Sonitpur and Tinsukia along and two from Nalbari and Dhubri districts, he said.

The death rate in the state has risen to 0.32 per cent from 0.30 per cent last week.

The fresh cases include 422 from Kamrup Metropolitan, 134 from Jorhat and 107 from Lakhimpur, Sarma said.

A total of 15,515 tests were conducted since Saturday, considerably lower than the average of 40,000 daily tests, officials said. Altogether, Assam has tested 27,17,795 samples so far.

COVID-19: With 1,014 new cases, Jharkhand reports total 61,474 cases
Jharkhand reported 1,014 new COVID-19 cases, 1,509 recovered/ discharged cases and 11 deaths on Sunday, said the State Health Department.

The total cases in the state rose to 61,474 including 46,583 cases declared recovered and discharged and 555 deaths. Active cases stand at 14,336, according to the State Health Department.

Meanwhile, with 94,372 new COVID-19 cases in India, the national coronavirus count reached over 47 lakh, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

Punjab reported 2,628 new COVID-19 cases and 68 deaths on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 79,679 in the state, the health department said.

COVID-19: With highest single-day spike of 379 new cases, Indore's tally crosses 17,000-mark
With the highest single-day spike of 379 new COVID-19 cases, Indore's tally crossed 17,000 mark on Sunday, said the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in a bulletin.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 17,161 while with five new fatalities on Sunday, the death toll has reached 463.

Coronavirus news: Vande Bharat flights facilitated repatriation, outbound travel of over 16.25 lakh people
International flights under Vande Bharat Mission, in addition to other modes, facilitated repatriation and outbound travel of more than 16.25 lakh people from different countries, said Hardeep Singh Puri, Civil Aviation Minister.

Coronavirus: Scientists Working On SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Sequences To Fight COVID-19
A group of scientists in India is working on genomic sequences of SARS-CoV-2 around the world, including India, to identify genetic variability and potential molecular targets in virus and human to find the best possible answer to combat the COVID-19 virus.

As per the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the study is sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the study has been published in the Journal called Infection, Genetics, and Evolution.

Breaking down the novel coronavirus challenge into many pieces to get to its root and see it from multiple directions, Dr. Indrajit Saha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Kolkata, and his team have developed a web-based COVID- Predictor to predict the sequence of viruses online on the basis of machine learning and analysed 566 Indian SARS-CoV-2 genomes to find the genetic variability in terms of point mutation and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP).

COVID-19: With 1,292 new cases, Assam's tally reaches 1,41,763
Assam recorded 1,292 COVID-19 cases on Sunday out of 15,515 tests done in the last 24 hours, said Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Health Minister.

The total number of cases is now at 1,41,763 including 1,10,882 recoveries, 30,409 active cases and 4,69 deaths.

COVID-19: Israel announces 3-week nationwide coronavirus lockdown
Israel's government announced Saturday it would impose a three-week nationwide lockdown in an effort to stem one of the world's highest novel coronavirus infection rates after a surge in cases.

The lockdown order, set to go into effect on Friday, makes Israel the first developed economy to take such a drastic measure to curb a "second wave" of virus infections.

Israel had initially been widely praised for curbing the spread of the Covid-19 disease by imposing a stringent lockdown in March, but it is now second only to Bahrain for the world's highest coronavirus infection rate per capita, according to an AFP tally.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the government decision in a televised statement, saying the cabinet had agreed "a strict (lockdown) plan for three weeks, with an option that it will be extended".

"Our goal is to stop the increase, to reduce the contagion," which has crossed the threshold of 4,000 new cases a day, he added.

The lockdown is set to begin from 1100 GMT on Friday, just hours before the start of the Jewish New Year and the High Holidays, which also include the Day of Atonement and Sukkot.

COVID-19: Jammu and Kashmir reports 1,686 new cases
 Jammu and Kashmir reported 1,686 new COVID-19 cases. Of these, while 875 have been reported from Jammu, the remaining 811 were reported from Kashmir division, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir informed on Sunday.

"1,686 new COVID19 cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir today; 875 from Jammu division and 811 from Kashmir division. A total number of cases now at 54,096 including 17,481 active cases, 35,737 recoveries, and 878 death," it said.

COVID-19: Odisha's tally crosses 1.5-lakh mark; death count mounts to 626
The COVID-19 tally in Odisha rose to 1,50,807 with 3,913 more people testing positive for the disease on Sunday, while 10 fresh fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 626, a health department official said.

The new cases were reported from all the 30 districts of the state, he said.

Of the fresh cases, 2,348 were reported from various quarantine centres, and 1,565 were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Three new deaths were registered in Khurda district, two in Cuttack and one each in Balasore, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Subarnapur.

Ganjam accounted for 215 of the 626 fatalities in the state, followed by Khurda (92).

Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died in the coastal state due to comorbidities, the official said.

Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the highest number of 556 fresh cases, followed by Cuttack at 382 and Puri at 212.

Odisha now has 34,849 active cases, while 1,15,279 patients have so far recovered from the disease.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday flagged off "Corona Vijay Rath" to create awareness regarding COVID-19 and also distribute masks and sanitisers free of cost.

"Corona Vijay Rath started today from Raipur. These six vehicles will cover Raipur city and will distribute masks and sanitizer free of cost. These vehicles will also help create public awareness regarding COVID-19," Mr Baghel said. 

"We need everybody's cooperation to defeat this pandemic. If one has a cold and coughs then the person should get tested. This is not a disease that we can't fight but, if you have sugar, heart-related disease, or cancer, it gets risky for a person. So we should not be careless and follow protocols," the Chief Minister said.

West Bengal's COVID-19 caseload surpasses 2 lakh mark, deaths rises to 3,945

West Bengal reported 3,215 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, going past the 2 lakh mark, while 58 fatalities pushed the death toll to 3,945, the health department said in a bulletin.

The state's caseload now stands at 2,02,708. Since Saturday, 3,054 people have recovered from the disease, taking the discharge rate to 86.40 per cent, it said.

West Bengal has 23,624 active patients, the bulletin said, adding, 47,318 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

COVID-19 tests conducted on 94 individuals at Delhi Vidhan Sabha: Speaker

To ensure the safety of the MLAs and staff of Delhi Legislative Assembly, COVID-19 tests were conducted on 94 individuals at Delhi Vidhan Sabha this Friday, according to the Delhi Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel.

As per an official release, there were 29 MLAs out of the total individuals who were tested and no person was found COVID-19 positive.

The release stated that 214 Rapid Antigen Tests were also conducted at the assembly, where 3 individuals were found corona positive.

"Delhi Assembly also has made necessary arrangements for media persons not having COVID-19 report they may get Rapid/Antigen testing at the temporary set-up established at Committee Room in Delhi Vidhan Sabha complex between 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on 14/09/2020," the release further stated.

COVID-19: "Civil Defence volunteers" deployed in Agartala to ensure social distancing

Amid the rising COVID-19 situation in Tripura, ''Civil Defence volunteers'' are ensuring that social distancing norms are being followed in the vegetable market of Agartala to prevent the spread of infection.

Besides the new volunteers, boards stating, ''no mask, no vegetable'' have been put up in the vegetable market to make sure that coronavirus norms are being adhered to.

"We are here to see that people wear masks and maintain distance. The situation is better in the market in the sense that everyone is using a mask. Vendors are not selling any items to those who found not wearing masks and we also object," said Bijaya Sinha, a civil defense volunteer.

Monsoon session of Parliament: Lok Sabha Speaker sends coronavirus safety kit to MPs

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday has sent a safety COVID-19 kit along with a letter to all the parliamentarians amid the pandemic.

"As you are aware, the Monsoon Session of Parliament is commencing on 14th September 2020 and will last up to October 1 without any holiday in between. This session is being held in extraordinary circumstances. While discharging our Constitutional responsibilities, we also have to comply with all the Covid-19 related guidelines," Mr Birla stated in the letter to parliamentarians.

"I am sending a sanitisation kit along with this letter for your use. The kit provided by DRDO contain sanitisers, face masks, face shields, etc. I am sure that I will continue to receive your full cooperation in conducting proceedings of the House," he said.

203 villages under Maharashtra's Thane Zilla Parishad now "corona free"

A total of 203 villages under Maharashtra's Thane Zilla Parishad do not have any coronavirus positive cases and the panchayats there have put up green flags to highlight the feat, Chief Executive Officer Hiralal Sonawane said on Sunday.

He told PTI that villages which do not report any COVID-19 case for 28 days are termed ''corona free villages''.

The official informed that Thane district has 430 village panchayats in all. "The recovery rate in the rural parts of the district is 79.24 per cent," he added.

All possile steps being taken against COVID-19: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister

Amid a steady rise in COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said all possible measures are being taken to curb the spread of the infection and treatment of patients in the state.

The Chief Minister said the state has significantly enhanced its testing capacity for COVID-19 in the last couple of months, it added.

"In March this year, only All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur had the facility for COVID-19 testing, and it was a big challenge to expand the testing facilities," Mr Baghel said.

At present, all six government medical colleges in the state and four private labs have RT-PCR testing facility. In all, the community and primary health centres and 28 district hospitals, arrangements have been done for rapid antigen testing, while TrueNAT tests are being conducted in 30 labs, he said.

Nagpur reports highest one-day spike of 2,343 COVID-19 cases

Nagpur registered its highest single-day spike of 2,343 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, the authorities said. This took the district's overall tally to 52,471, the district information office said in a statement. 

The number of patients who died due to the infection on Sunday was 45. This pushed the deaths in the district to 1,658, it said.

As many as 39,149 patients have recovered from the infection so far, of whom 1,769 were discharged on Sunday. There are 11,664 active patients in Nagpur district at present, the statement said.

1,326 new COVID-19 cases in Gujarat, death count rises by 15

With the addition of 1,326 coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, Gujarat's overall tally went up to 1,13,662, the state health department said. With 15 deaths, the fatality count reached 3,213, it said.

A total of 1,205 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the number of recovered cases in the state to 94,010, the department said in its release. 

In the last 24 hours, 68,828 tests were conducted in Gujarat at the rate of 1,058.89 tests per day per million population, the department said.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally on Sunday rose to 10,60,308 after 22543 fresh cases, a health official said. 

The number of deaths in the state rose to 29531 with 416 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the official said. So far, 740061 persons have been discharged, while there are 290344 cases in the state, he said. The number of tests so far is 5253676, he added.

Andhra Pradesh reports 9,536 new COVID-19 cases, 66 deaths

As many as 9,536 new COVID-19 cases, 66 deaths were reported in Andhra Pradesh in the past 24 hours. The state's coronavirus count now stands at 5,67,123 cases.

There are 95,072 active cases in the state while 4,912 people have died of the virus.

"In the last 24 hours, 72,233 samples are tested in Andhra Pradesh. 9,536 of them are detected COVID-19 positive. With this, total cases in Andhra Pradesh increased to 5,67,123. Of them, 95,072 are active cases," a media bulletin by state nodal officer stated.

Tripura reports 12 COVID-19 fatalities, 629 new cases

Tripura on Sunday reported record single-day spike of 12 COVID-19 fatalities, which raised the deaths to 194, while 629 fresh cases pushed the tally in the state to 18,932, a senior official said.

West Tripura district, of which Agartala is a part, has accounted for 107 of the 194 COVID-19 deaths, he said. Tripura, at present, has 7,584 active coronavirus cases, while 11,132 people have recovered from the disease. Twenty-two patients have migrated to other states.

Maharashtra: Jalna official junks COVID-19 compensation messages

The state government is not giving Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to COVID-19 patients and any message to this effect on social media is fake and must not be believed, Jalna collector Ravindra Binwade said on Sunday.

He said the state was providing free treatment under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY).

Mr Binwade also refuted rumours that the district would be put under a total lockdown again amid a rise in infection cases.

Noida: Active COVID-19 cases cross 2,000, recoveries cross 8,000-mark

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Sunday recorded 186 new COVID-19 patients and the district's active case count crossed the 2,000-mark for the first time, official data showed.

The fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 10,192, of which nearly 80 per cent have recovered, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

The number of active cases stood at 1,429 last Sunday.

Delhi Records 4,235 Coronavirus Cases; Over 4,000 Infections Reported For 5th Straight Day

Delhi recorded 4,235 coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally to over 2.18 lakh, while the number of deaths mounted to 4,744 with 29 new fatalities, authorities said.

This is the fifth successive day when over 4,000 coronavirus cases were recorded in the national capital. According to a Delhi government health bulletin issued this evening, 29 fresh fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours.

A total of 56,656 tests -- 10,116 RT-PCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat and 46,540 rapid antigen tests -- were conducted during the period, it said.

Five inmates under treatment for COVID-19 in Delhi prisons: Official

Five inmates, who recently arrived in jails in Delhi, have tested positive for COVID-19 and are undergoing treatment, officials said on Sunday.

This comes less than a month after the Delhi Prisons Department declared there was no active COVID-19 case among the inmates in its three jail complexes.

According to the data shared by the officials, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi Prisons now stands at 25, including 20 jail staff.

"A total of 70 prison inmates tested positive for COVID-19. Sixty-three of them have recovered and two died, leaving five active cases. There were 188 prison staff exposed to the novel coronavirus. Of them, 168 have recovered and 20 are still under treatment for the disease," Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel said.

Nagpur mask violation fine up from Rs 200 to Rs 500: Minister

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said people in Nagpur will be fined Rs 500 instead of Rs 200 from Monday for not wearing masks amid the coronavirus outbreak.

He said all precautions must be taken and social distancing norms have to be followed strictly till such time as a vaccine is developed for COVID-19.

"Despite appeals, many people are not wearing masks. From Monday, the fine here will be Rs 500, up from the current Rs 200," he said.

80 deaths, 6,239 fresh virus cases in Uttar Pradesh

Eighty more people died from coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday as 6,239 fresh cases surfaced, taking the infection figures to 3,12,036 in the state.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said so far, 4,429 people have died from the disease in Uttar Pradesh.

The count of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 68,122, he said, adding that 6,239 cases were reported on Sunday.

Till now, 2,39,485 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease, he said.

Russia records 5,449 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours

Russia has registered 5,449 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, which brings the cumulative total to 1,062,811, the country's coronavirus response centre said on Sunday.

"Over the past 24 hours, Russia has confirmed 5,449 COVID-19 cases in 84 regions, of which 1,238 (23.5 per cent) have been detected actively, with people showing no clinical symptoms," the response centre said in a statement.

Moscow recorded 650 cases, St. Petersburg registered 206 cases and the Moscow region confirmed 166 new cases.

In the wake of the rise of cases of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday announced the launch of ''My family-My responsibility'' from September 15 to fight the pandemic.

Under this campaign, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will reach out to every family residing in the financial capital and will provide medical help and guidance if needed.

"Let''s practice these guidelines on Individual, Family and Social levels for a COVID-free Mumbai," BMC tweeted this morning.

New COVID-19 facility in Goa to start functioning from September 19

A 250-bed COVID-19 facility will start operating at the South Goa district hospital from September 19, state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said.

As of now, COVID-19 patients in the state are being treated at the ESI Hospital in Margao (South Goa), the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) near Panaji (North Goa) and the Sub-District Hospital in Ponda (South Goa).

Record spike of 351 COVID-19 cases in Indore over 24-hour period

Indore, Madhya Pradesh's worst coronavirus-hit district, witnessed a record spike of 351 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 count here to 16,782, an official said on Sunday.

A total of 458 patients have died of the infection so far, and government data shows the mortality rate in the district is 2.73 per cent, which is higher than the national average at 1.65 per cent.

"The number of active cases is 5,011, which include patients in home isolation. So far, 11,313 people have been discharged post recovery," an official said.

COVID-19: 58 per cent of recovered cases coming from five states

A total of 37,02,595 people have recuperated from COVID-19 in the country so far, with 58 per cent of the recovered cases being reported from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, the Centre said on Sunday.

The same five states account for 60 per cent of total 9,73,175 active cases in the country.

The national recovery rate now stands at 77.88 per cent.

While Maharashtra has reported 17.2 pc recovered cases, Tamil Nadu has 13.1 pc, Andhra Pradesh 12.2 pc, Karnataka 7.9 pc and Uttar Pradesh 7.8 pc, the Union Health Ministry said.

Discharged 2,454 COVID-19 patients after treating them successfully: ITBP

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which is running the world's largest COVID care facility- Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre (SPCCC) (10,000 beds), has so far discharged more than 2,454 patients after treating them successfully.

According to the ITBP, they have treated patients as small as 17 days old infant to 78-year-old adult. SS Deswal, DG ITBP is taking a stock of the centre on daily basis and has asked the team to ensure that patients get the best facilities.

The Centre formally started taking patients from July 5, 2020, after the successful trial run by ITBP. So far, a total of 3,921 patients have been admitted at this centre. Out of these, 2,454 have been discharged after being successfully treated. Only 81 of them have been referred to other hospitals. Till date, the oldest patient cured here was 78 years old and the youngest being a 17 days infant. All facilities are being provided free of cost to all strata of the society, the ITBP said in a statement.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu undergoes COVID-19 test ahead of monsoon session

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has undergone a COVID-19 test ahead of the monsoon session in Parliament, informed the Vice President's Secretariat on Sunday.

The secretariat further informed that it is mandatory for all members of the Upper House to undergo a COVID-19 test before attending the session.

"Preparing himself to preside over the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament beginning on September 14, 2020, Chairman, Rajya Sabha, M Venkaiah Naidu underwent COVID-19 test today. It is mandatory for each member to undergo COVID-19 test (RT-PCR) before attending the upcoming session, according to an advisory issued to all Rajya Sabha members," the Vice President Secretariat said in a statement.

COVID-19 claims lives of seven more people in Rajasthan

Rajasthan recorded seven deaths and 731 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, according to a health department bulletin.

While the number of positive cases in the state has increased to 1,01436, the total number of fatalities climbed to 1,228.

Bikaner reported two fresh deaths, Dungarpur (1),  Jaipur (2), Jhalawar (1) and Udaipur (1).

15 more deaths take COVID-19 toll in Puducherry to 385

A total of 388 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths took the infection tally to 19,821 and the deaths to 385 in the union territory on Sunday, the government said.

The UT also tested 4,024 samples, the highest in a single day.

The 15 deaths included six women and the deceased were in the age group ranging from 48 to 85. Most of the deceased had comorbidities, a release from the health department said.

A total of 4,024 samples were tested, taking the total number of specimens examined so far to 99,480, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said.

India's COVID-19 recovery rate at 77.88 per cent: Health Ministry

India's COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 77.88 per cent after 78,399 recoveries registered in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

"India continues to report a high number of recoveries exceeding 70,000 every day. 78,399 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in the country. With this, the total number of recoveries has touched 3,702,595 taking the Recovery Rate to 77.88 per cent," said the Ministry in a statement.

The Ministry further informed that 58 per cent of the new recovered patients are being reported from five states -- Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

151 new cases push Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally to 5,961

The COVID-19 tally in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 5,961 as 151 more people, including 20 security personnel, have tested positive for the disease, an official said on Sunday.

Of the fresh cases, 63 were reported from the Capital Complex region, 22 from Changlang, 13 from Lower Dibang Valley, 10 from Upper Siang, seven from Tawang and six each from Papumpare and East Siang districts, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.

Four new cases each were also reported from Longding, Kurung Kumey and Leparada, three from Tirap, two each from Upper Subansiri, West Siang and Lower Subansiri and one each from Namsai, Anjaw and Lohit districts, he said.

Two-year-old girl among 35 new COVID-19 cases in Mizoram

Mizoram reported 35 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the state's tally to 1,414, an official said.

Among the new patients were a two-year-old girl, and two truckers who came to the state from Punjab and Assam, he said.

There are 591 active cases in the state at present while 823 people have recovered from COVID-19, the official said.

Of the new cases, 28 were reported from Aizawl, four from Lunglei and three from Kolasib, he said.

France's daily COVID-19 cases pass 10,000 for first time

France has had 10,561 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, health authorities said on Saturday, a new daily record as the number topped 10,000 for the first time.

The latest daily count, surpassing the previous record of 9,843 new infections reported on Thursday, highlights a resurgence of the disease in France.

The rise led the government to outline additional measures on Friday to avert a return to the general lockdown put in place earlier in the year. Prime Minister Jean Castex promised steps to speed up tests and toughen local measures in high-infection zones.

Brazil reports 814 coronavirus deaths on Saturday

Brazil registered 814 coronavirus deaths over the last 24 hours and 33,523 additional cases, the nation's health ministry said on Saturday evening.

The South American country has now reported 131,210 total deaths and 4,315,687 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

Brazil ranks third in the world after the United States and India in terms of total coronavirus cases, and it is second only to the United States in terms of deaths.

Mexico's confirmed coronavirus deaths rise to 70,604

Mexico reported 5,674 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection and 421 additional fatalities on Saturday, bringing its totals to 663,973 infections and 70,604 deaths, according to updated Health Ministry data.

The government has said the real number of infected people is likely to be significantly higher than the confirmed cases.

So far, Mexico's death toll from the pandemic is the fourth highest globally, and the 13th highest on a per capita basis, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) is ready to restart coronavirus vaccine trials - pending permission from the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) - the manufacturer said in a statement on Saturday evening.

Coronavirus: Maharashtra Reports Over 22,000 Covid Cases, 391 Deaths In Last 24 Hours

Continuing the trend of reporting higher number of COVID-19 infections, Maharashtra on Saturday added 22,084 new cases, taking the total caseload to 10,37,765, state health department said.
With 391 more deaths due to infection, the cumulative count crossed the 29,000 mark and reached 29,115, it said.

A total of 13,489 patients were discharged after treatment in the day, raising the number of recoveries to 7,28,512.

The state now has 2,79,768 active cases, the department said in a release.

The case recovery rate now stands at 70.2 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.81 per cent.

Mumbai saw 2,350 new cases in the day, taking its total tally to 1,67,656, it said, adding that the city's death count rose by 42 to 8,109.

COVID-19 patients must not be denied beds: Health Ministry to hospitals

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Saturday affirmed the government's resolve to ensure that patient of COVID-19 must not be denied beds and must be provided prompt treatment.

He said the collective goal must be to have a health system that is available, affordable and accessible to all and the aim of the Centre along with the states was to achieve a mortality rate of less than one per cent.

Bhushan inaugurated a virtual conclave for private hospitals providing COVID-19 treatment in the country organised by the ministry in collaboration with FICCI and AIIMS New Delhi.

"He reiterated the resolve of the Government to ensure that patient of COVID-19 must not be denied beds and must be provided prompt treatment. The collective goal must be to have a health system that available, affordable and accessible to all. He highlighted that the aim of the Centre along with the state/UT governments is to achieve a mortality rate of less than one per cent," the release said.

COVID-19: Kerala records 2,885 new cases, 15 fatalities

COVID-19 was confirmed in 2,885 persons in Kerala on Saturday even as 1,944 patients under treatment for the same have recovered from the disease, said Health Minister KK Shailaja.

Of those diagnosed today, 2,640 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection of 287 was not traceable. Forty-two are returnees from abroad and 137 from other states. Fifty-five healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.

Fifteen recent deaths were confirmed on Saturday due to COVID-19. The district-wise figures for those who tested positive yesterday are Thiruvananthapuram 566, Malappuram 310, Kozhikode 286, Kollam 265, Kannur 207, Ernakulam 188, Palakkad 184, Thrissur 172, Kottayam 166, Alappuzha 163, Kasargod 150, Pathanamthitta 88, Idukki 86 and Wayanad 54.
