Located about 75 km from Chennai, Kanchipuram makes for a great one -day trip to explore its rich cultural heritage through its ancient temples..

During the rule of the Cholas and the Pallavas, Kanchipuram thrived as a cultural hub, which is evident from the many temples that dot the town.


Dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi,
this is an important shakti peeth in India. It has an ornate gopuram, stone pillars, four grand gates.

Ekambareswarar temple complex consists of stone-cut sculptures of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, depicting their tale of love.

Special celebrations in this ancient Hindu temple sees a parade of the Gods and various mythological creatures.

The sandstone temple built by the Pallavas depicts the Hindu belief of rebirth, and is considered to be a pride of Dravidian architecture.

Kanchipuram is also renowned for its traditional craft of weaving Kanjeevaram silk sarees that come in a variety of colours, patterns.

What adds dazzle to Kanjeevaram sarees is the use of zari or metallic thread, which in the ancient times was made of gold.
