COVID vaccines

In India, three COVID-19 vaccines are approved:
- Bharat Biotech and ICMR's Covaxin
- Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield
- Russia's Sputnik V (To be available soon)

Of the three COVID-19 vaccines which have been granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in India, only Covishield is approved by the World Health Organisation.

All three vaccines can be stored at 2°C to 8°C.

The approved vaccines are two dose vaccines administered intramuscularly. Both the doses should be of the same vaccine type, says the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

- Covaxin: 4-6 weeks
- Covishield: 12-16 weeks
- Sputnik V: 21 days

Since May 1, 2021, all citizens above the age of 18 are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

In government-run institutions, vaccines are provided for free to all eligible persons.
The Centre has fixed the maximum price that private hospitals can charge starting June 21.
