The clip was furiously debated on social media, even provoking a police complaint against the comic.

"The video is a satire," the 42-year-old stand-up comic said in his clarification.

On the feedback to the clip, Vir Das said, "Millions of people have given me love for my show."

The comic reiterated that he would not let the episode change anything about the jokes he writes.

But this is not the first controversy that the outspoken comedian has been embroiled in.

Last year, Vir Das shared a video of an old man shouting at him, threatening to slap him and sneeze at him.

The elderly man was allegedly angry as the comic wasn't following Covid protocols.

Social media users were divided over the clip which was later taken down by the comic.

Vir Das was also criticised for mocking gender pronouns on an episode of his show TenOnTen.
