Speaking to NDTV Banega Swasth India team during a Facebook Live session, Paralympian Deepa Malik said that she had to deal with her own disability and with the disability of her child. She added that the taboos related to disability continued for a very long time for her and she realised that even after so many years of suffering nothing really changed with disability. "India may have progressed, they may have computers and technology, but when it comes to thoughts related to disability, nothing really changed. The thoughts are still negative, the infrastructure is still not disable friendly, opportunities are not that much. Disability is not in the heart of inclusion that is when we (the mother and daughter duo) decided to form Wheeling Happiness." Explaining why they named it that she said that "we want people with disability to find one source of happiness for them. We want people to think that sitting on a wheelchair doesn't mean sadness, we can convert that into wheeling happiness as well."
