Hitting out at the Congress party for politicising remarks made by Army chief Bipin Rawat on local support for terrorists in Kashmir, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on NDTV's show Walk The Talk said, the Army chief's remarks should not be misinterpreted and were in national interest. Speaking on unrest and growing alienation in the valley, he added, "No citizen should be treated as an enemy". Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken a leaf out of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's book, he said, that while the problem is deep-rooted in our history, centre has been very generous in its policy. Taking on Pakistan, he added, "Pakistan won't let us sleep in peace, but we won't fall prey to their evil designs."
