This week if you live in North India, you probably wish you didn't, as a blanket of smog, poisoned, toxic air descended over city after city. This month, North India witnessed a huge air pollution crisis as many cities including Delhi were swathed in a blanket of toxic smog. Yet life and the political blame-game seemed to continue as usual. Courts rap governments, chief ministers refuse to meet and silence from the very top. The environment minister says it's "not as bad as the Bhopal gas tragedy" while studies reveal how millions of Indians are dying of this pollution. How can we as citizens, government, doctors, come together to save ourselves from this health emergency? On The NDTV Dialogues this week are Kiran Bedi, Lt Governor of Puducherry; Deepender Hooda, Congress MP; Ashish Khetan of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi; Mexican Ambassador Melba Pria currently posted in Delhi; and also Dr Lalit Dandona, Professor at the Public Health Foundation of India and Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington in the US which led a large collaboration in India on disease burden and risk factors estimation for every state the report included air pollution and its impact on health for the last two decades.
