All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) chief Dr Randeep Guleria said there is indirect evidence to suggest that mutants are causing a spike in Covid cases and that cases are expected to rise before things get better. Dr Guleria said India needs more data to understand the behavior of mutant strains and that reinfection is possible, but the vaccines can protect against severe disease.
