Holi is a red-letter day in Barsana, the birthplace of Radha. On this day, people travel from all over north India to watch the women of Barsana beat the men of neighbouring Nandgaon with sticks in the unique 'Lathmar' celebration of the festival of colours. The customs of 'Lathmar' Holi include the use of sexual innuendo and explicit abuses, all with social sanction. But, in the delicate balance of tradition and modernity, the search for Radha seems to be lost in translation.
