It was a turbulent week for the international currency markets as the American dollar and the British pound suddenly sank to their lowest levels for some time now. It took massive interventions by the central banks of both countries to partially stabilise the currency markets in the short term. America and Britain put the blame squarely on Germany as the West accuses it, among other things, of not being a team player.
