Years ago, she did the unthinkable in her Uttar Pradesh village of Vahapur. She shed her purdah and started gathering girls and giving them lessons. In the face of disapproval and threats, Rehana soldiered on and eventually set up a school attended by students from 10 neighbouring villages. She is among the 17 Godfrey Phillips Bravery Award winners this year.
