The journey is long and there is much to be learned and unlearned. As the women from Silai school break the mould and work towards creating the Silai design label, they are themselves undergoing a process of transformation. With preparations in full swing for the launch of the label, we take a closer look at the production of the garments that will be part of a fashion show were models will adorn their creations and walk the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week. First step was to identify the talent that will make it to the team of the design label. This was done through a nationwide assessment process. Phase 1 of this selection process started with 79 women across four zones. Then in the shortlisting process 22 women from Ahmedabad, 27 women from Rajasthan, 14 women from West Bengal and 16 women from Pondicherry, made it to the next round. Through a detailed assessment of their skillset, the designers further short listed 46 women who will now be given advanced trained to work in the final production of the garments.
