Today, Amnesty India has asked for an immediate release of the seven activists who were on a fact-finding team looking into encounter killings in Bastar. This after a Chhattisgarh court sent them to jail for allegedly helping Maoists in the region. Police allege that Rs 1 lakh in old notes have been recovered from the activists. The state government has claimed that note ban has crippled the Maoists in the Chhattisgarh.
