Mumbai's monsoon returned - and so did the dreaded potholes. India's richest civic works body, the Shiv Sena-controlled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has a kitty of nearly Rs 50 crore just to repair roads and fill potholes. But it's the same story year after year. Just three weeks into monsoon, over 600 potholes have been reported to the BMC by annoyed citizens. But varying estimates, including one by the Congress, peg it at nearly at 10,000. With it, the blame-game between political parties has escalated. As the civic authority tries to firefight, how long does the nation's financial capital have to wait for better roads?
