The violence in the Northeast intensified today after the Rajya Sabha passed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill. Two people were killed after the police opened fire at protesters in Guwahati on a day when protesters continue to defy the curfew in the city. The police chief has been sacked. Several columns of the Army have been deployed to help maintain peace.
