The Union Government has accepted the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission raising salaries of government employees by 23.5%. The responses have been mixed. While many argue about the impact such a pay hike will have on the exchequer and on the economy - raising prices, pushing up inflation - others say it's one of the lowest hikes in history. The armed forces say it doesn't address their critical concerns on the need for parity with civil services. And now unions - the railways, postal and central government employees have decided to go on strike against the pay hike on July 11.
